I’ll be on Portsmouth Island, NC from Thursday, April 4th, 2024 to Sunday, April 7th at this location:
within a radius of 50 feet.
Beach driving is straightforward: just air down tires to 15-20 lbs. and drive slowly. The NPS requires a permit to access the island, which cannot be obtained upon arrival. Portsmouth Island offers solitude and an untouched ambiance. Plan for extra provisions due to unpredictable ferry operations, mainly caused by wind. Winds can reach steady speeds of 25mph, and sand can be pervasive. While cellular connectivity from the mainland has improved, it’s wise to plan for limited access. Typically, April doesn’t present concerns with storms, insects, or excessive heat. Discreet alcohol consumption is advised, and law enforcement primarily monitors for speeding and seatbelt usage. Guns are allowed if you have an NC carry permit with reciprocity.
